Do I Still Need a Website If My Business Is on Facebook?
A lot of small businesses in the Philippines run almost everything on Facebook. The salon posts new hairstyles. The food seller takes orders in Messenger. The gym posts class times, and the clinic answers questions in the comments.
That works. Your customers are already on Facebook. So owners ask a fair question: if my page is already doing the job, why do I need a website?
Short answer: keep your page. You need it. But a website can do a few things that Facebook can't, and they are worth knowing before you decide.
Keep your Facebook page
We are not telling you to stop posting. Your page is a good place to talk with customers. You share photos, post promos and reply to messages fast. Your regular customers know where to find you there.
A website doesn't take over that job. It works next to your page. Here is one way to think about it. Your page is where you chat with people. Your website is your home address online. It is always there, and it always shows the same clear information.
Your page is on someone else's platform
Facebook belongs to another company, and that company makes the rules. Sometimes the rules change. Sometimes a page gets restricted or locked, and fixing it can take time.
Your website is yours. Facebook's rules don't control it, and the Facebook algorithm doesn't decide who sees it. If something happens to your page, your website is still there and customers can still find you.
When people search on Google
When people look for a business, many of them search on Google first. They type things like "salon near me", "bakery in Cebu" or "dental clinic open Sunday."
A Facebook page doesn't always show up well in these searches. A website can. If your site has your business name, your services and your location, Google can show it to people who are looking for what you offer. Many of them don't follow your page yet.
These new customers also want to check you first. Maybe a friend told them about you. Maybe they saw your sign while passing by. Before they visit or order, they want to know your business is real and serious. A clean website with your name, photos, prices and contact details looks professional. It shows you care about your business, and for many people that is what makes them feel safe enough to message you, book or buy.
The price list from three months ago
Every page owner knows this one. New posts push old posts down. The price list you posted three months ago is now far down the feed. Your opening hours are hard to find.
So a customer scrolls and scrolls, gives up, and sends "HM po?" in Messenger. Another one asks if you're open today. Someone else can't find the map and asks where you're located. You end up typing the same answers again and again.
A website keeps this information in one place, and it stays at the top. A good small business website can show:
- a clear price list or menu
- your opening hours
- a map to your shop, salon or clinic
- a button to book, order or send a message
Customers can see it all in one minute. You spend less time answering the same questions and more time serving customers.
